AI is rewriting the business playbook

AI is no longer just a side project but a must-have for businesses to thrive. It is becoming the operating system for how companies compete, decide and grow, according to Gartner.

By 2030, more than one in 10 enterprises will be AI-first. Those that move fastest are expected to outperform rivals through AI agents, semantics, and converged data and analytics platforms.

However, AI-first is not just about adding more automation. It demands a full enterprise commitment because AI is now shaping business decisions, workflows and investment choices across the organisation.

For business leaders, the message is to build for AI now or risk being trapped in slower, less competitive systems while others move to real-time, agent-driven operations.

“Without a clear, enterprise-wide commitment, organisations will struggle to consistently realise its full potential across the business,” said Carlie Idoine, VP Analyst of Gartner.

According to the research firm, the next two years will test whether companies can adapt to six major trends, from sovereign AI and tighter governance to agentic data streaming, agentic data management, and GraphRAG.

As AI becomes more autonomous, the winners will be those that can combine speed with governance, and innovation with trust.
