Sad day for autonomous vehicles

A 49-year-old woman has become the first pedestrian to be killed by an autonomous vehicle.

The self-driving Uber car, which reportedly had a driver behind the wheel, crashed into Elaine Herzberg in Tempe, Arizona, as she crossed the road.

As a result, Uber is suspending self-driving car tests in Arizona and all┬ámajor cities — including Pittsburgh, San Francisco and Toronto.

Self-driving technologies are still evolving amid global interest, including the use of such vehicles for public transportation.
