It’s been a month of event cancellations due to COVID-19. NVIDIA has pulled the plug on the annual GPU Technology Conference (GTC) in San Jose and taking the show online. Just how much of the event will be held online is yet to be known but the definite go ahead is the keynote address by NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang.
According to NVIDIA, the speakers will still be sharing their talks online. Updates will be provided at a later date.
Game Developers Conference (GDC), scheduled for March 16 to 20 in San Francisco, has also been cancelled.
According to the organiser, the decision was made “after close consultation with our partners in the game development industry and community around the world”.
It plans to host a GDC event later in the summer and will share more information in the coming weeks.
Google has been even more decisive by canning Google I/O two months ahead of time — the event was supposed to take place from May 12 to 14.
All participants who have purchased tickets will receive a full refund by March 13. As a gesture of goodwill, Google will automatically grant those who have registered this year to have the option of purchasing an I/O 2021 ticket.
The search giant is exploring other ways to “evolve Google I/O to best connect with our developer community”.
While most event organisers are prepared to refund registration fees, participants can still be hard hit because airlines and hotels may slap cancellation fees, especially for events scrubbed close to the actual dates.
