SAP has launched at SAP Sapphire 2026 in Orlando its Autonomous Enterprise vision to transform business operations through AI-driven automation.
The autonomous enterprise features a unified AI platform that builds, contextualises and governs agents, an autonomous suite that automates core business operations, and a redesigned user experience that transforms interactions with enterprise software.
“For the mission-critical processes of our customers, ‘almost right’ just isn’t good enough. By uniting SAP Business AI Platform with SAP Autonomous Suite, we anchor AI agents in the business processes, data and governance so they can deliver accurate, compliant and secure outcomes, unlocking new sources of revenue and meaningful cost savings,” said Christian Klein (top), CEO of SAP.
The SAP Business AI Platform enables customers to customise the Joule AI agent, now enhanced with Anthropic’s Claude model and 224 specialised AI agents across 51 assistants.
NVIDIA partnership boosts security
In another development, SAP is embedding NVIDIA’s open-source OpenShell runtime into its platform for secure AI agent deployment, providing isolated environments, policy enforcement, and governance controls.
OpenShell serves as the runtime security layer within the SAP Business AI Platform for all SAP AI agents, including those custom-built in Joule Studio, SAP’s dedicated environment for developing and managing comprehensive enterprise agents.
For businesses, transitioning from AI assistants to fully autonomous agents fundamentally alters trust dynamics. Agents that access core systems, span application boundaries, and operate independently require strict controls, policy enforcement and comprehensive audit trails before integration into live workflows.
